Firefox why do you want me to hate you?

So Firefox 4 came out and I really like it for the most part but it seems like there are these little things that are trying to stop me. This is actually my second time trying FF4 as my main browser since I was originally a Google Chrome guy.

The biggest problem is that the memory leak still seems to be around. I could literally leave Chrome open for days on end without any noticeable slow down. With FF4 after leaving it open for most of the day, there's some significant slow down happening. Luckily, this can be controlled by just closing Firefox and re-opening.

The worst and most annoying issue (to me anyway) is that if I'm on any webpage (as in, not the new tab screen) and I type a url into the address bar and hit enter it opens a new tab! Call me weird but it's completely maddening! Like it really is driving me crazy and I don't know how to stop it. I feel like I've looked everywhere for some sort of option to turn it off but I can find nothing. I even posted a question of on the Firefox forums a few days back and I've gotten no answer yet. Anyone wanna help me out here?

Question two: Typing a url into the address bar does not open a new tab for me. I wonder if you have an extension that's causing it, with a setting you've never paid attention to?

Same here, it just loads a new page in the existing tab.

+1 to having a look at your Add-ons.

Lol, I love you and also feel like a dunce now . It was Tab Utilities that was causing the problem. Fixed it inside the Add-on so, luckily I don't have to get rid of it. Thanks!

Yeah, not sure why it would open a new tab for you. I really like Chrome/ium, however Firefox's addon's and customization options keep me using it.

Mostly I just like the fact that FF4 is generally faster than Chrome, IME.

As far as specific features, Incognito browsing would be a nice standard feature in FF but I'd really like Live Bookmarks in Chrome.

Or just use google chrome again I use goggle chrome and safari (whatever version is newest). Neither give me any problems.

EDIT: looks like you solved your problems haha.

I refuse to upgrade to 4 because they switched the "new tab" and "new window" options in the right click menu.

Of some things that I don't like, thing I hate most of FF4 is I can't find "Bookmark All Tabs" (or maybe it's there somewhere but I just can't find it easily, I don't know) which I need.

So I downgrade it to the older version.

Haha took me a little bit of getting used to. It was one of my bigger pet peeves when I upgrades.

Also, one of my favourite add-ons, All-In-One-Gestures still hasn't been updated yet, which annoys the heck out of me.

Kwesi, I just suggest you close your FF more often if that's how it fixes the issue for you. It's no big deal to close it, and FF will save your tabs for you anyway.

Either right click on any tab & select "Bookmark All Tabs" from the context menu, or hit Ctrl+Shift+D. Both options create a folder of the tabs in your Bookmarks menu.

Chrome has it that way by default which is part of the reason I switched to it, lol

Haha I didn't think of that. I was in a hurry before so I was disappointed that I couldn't find it in it's usual place. So I just downgraded it
But I don't understand why they have to change it, it just force us to learn again which slowed us down.

Why use the right click menu for a new tab when you can just middle click?

Firefox's Private Browsing feature is the same as Chrome's Incognito. It can be enables in the tools menu "Enable Private Browsing", or Shift+Ctrl+P

I haven't noticed a big difference in speed between Chrome/FF4. What holds me back from using chrome is that there's no extension for NoScript, which is my favorite Firefox addon because it just cleans up websites by only allowing scripts to run that you permit.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Saves me about 10 seconds after porn browsing so I don't have to clear my history. Convenience is a great thing, no ?
