First DC Gun Registrant Turned Away (Post article)

Sign in to disble this ad
See, he didn't bring the actual gun to DC so it couldn't be test fired in accordance with the new regulations. The gun was in Maryland and they weren't sure it was legal for them to cross the state lines with it.

I'm shocked..SHOCKED, I tell you...

Man walks up to counter, "Hey, I want to buy this." "Buy what?" clerk says. "This.... oh, damn. Let me go back and get it."

Absolutely. Under the current 'emergency' (read 'hastily written') legislation, the only way you can legally register a handgun is to buy one from a licensed gun dealer in the District of Columbia. Now, at the police department they said in front of the cameras that transporting a firearm from out of state directly to DC for registration only would be no problem, but hey - if it ain't in writing, it ain't biting.

PS - Guess how many licensed gun dealers there are in the District today?

Personally I think that no one on either side gives a flying if one gun is legally registered in the District of Columbia as long as they get to make their points and get their sound bites and their press. Meanwhile, folks keep getting shot, and as usual, DC loses.

That must be a city ordinance. We don't have emissions testing at all here.

In NC I know it's by county. I saw inspection prices of a place out near the coast and it made me quite jealous that I have to pay the extra for emissions.

In a lot of the places (MD, DC, VA) it's statewide. In VA you just get your gas station to check and certify for you every year with your annual safety insepction. In MD and DC you make a trek every two years or so to the emissions inspection center to have them test you. That was my point about taking your car to the DMV to get it registered so they could see it - in MD they sorta do that, just at a different place.

Anyway, you go to an emissions station (one of about 20 in the state) burn up a lot of fuel waiting in line, and pay 'em $14for the test. Both our cars passed this year, and hopefully we'll have at least one new one next time it rolls around.

Here in CT, cars are required to have an emission inspection every two years. New cars don't have to go until they are four years old. There are no auto inspections unless you buy a car that's 25 years old or more.
