First fixed gear bike

Got the bug and built a fixie from a vintage Steyr frame I picked up for 20.00. What a blast to ride! A real contrast to my trusty old Heckler.

Word. That's actually a pretty good looking conversion too, I've seen so many janky ones around the Internet that it's almost turned me off to anything but ready-made fixed gears. Enjoy it!

Speaking of, I picked up a nice little toy a few weeks ago, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. May have to make an update for everyone who posted advice in my thread a while back...

It was a pretty easy conversion, bmx bottom bracket, Pake cranks and a set of alex wheels that came with flip flop hub and tires and a Techtro long reach caliper for the front.
the handle bars are an old Specialized thermoplastic that I shortened from my parts stash, brake lever from the canti's that came on a Cannondale I used to have. About 200~ in parts to build it. Being originally a 3 speed the frame width was about right for the single speed rear wheel and nice long dropouts. Pretty fast ride actually.

Nice ride-
If your new to fixed gear, check out the following:

This guy (R.I.P.) is considered theguru of valuable info
on bicycles, and

Which is my "TalkBass" for fixed gear bikes-
You'll learn lots, like why you better ride with some foot
retention, or you'll be cruisin' for a bruisin!

He's got brakes, so the foot retention isn't such a big deal.

+1 for Sheldon and BFSSFG.

ME ME ME

I'm 75% done semi-restoring my 70s Raleigh Professional track bike- Campy parts, Fiamme tubulars(w/no real braking surface). My first non-dirt bicycle, I got it around 83.
On topic, nice ride, toytech.
Your MTB is borderline vintage as well.
Have you guys heard of www.norcalbiketrader.com? It could use some members.
