Ok so I listed 2 basses on craigslist today, and I'm trying to be aware of scammers. I got this email, but it seems suspicious...it's kinda halfway in between legit and scam in my opinion... Quote:

THANKS ~(Name)
| Should I ignore it? Get back to him?

Droppin off an item is a sure way to set your self up for a mugging/strong arm robbery. The out of town thing is a sure sign of a scam. I'd answer him back and fish around a little with out giving away your phone number etc...Anyway you look at it get cash, no money orders no matter how legit they look. Paypal is somehwta safe, but remember, if the guy is ripping off PayPal you don't have any of the protection you'd have dealing with say, E-Bay. So, you'd get the money, and in a week or so it would tun out the guy hacked someone elses PayPal account, and PayPal would come back on you for the cash.

If someone says they're out of town but wants you to drop it off and you do decide to answer their email, say you can wait until they get back if they give you a paypal deposit or something to that effect.
+1 to the above email being a scam. |

| | | | Dont respond to anything that doesnt feel right to you. Ive been selling and buying things regularly on CL for years and thats the best advice I can give. Anything that involves depositing money in accounts or shipping your items just ignore. The only way you want to do business is cash in hand. You can usually gauge a potential buyer by the way they communicate through e-mail and phone so just be aware. All these years and Ive never had a bad experience yet.

I always ensure my replys are well-worded if emailing the seller. If I am calling them I will have a cigarette before, so I'm nice and relaxed. Same thing before the in-person meet. I know that when I go to sell my truck, CL will be a big part of it but I will still be cautious. I see what's out there.
Peace,
Greg
