...yeah, I know, it's not "real" yet, but I got to watch my Saints on ESPN last night...man it felt GOOD to watch football again!
...good game for my boys, the first string offense looked very solid, even missing two starters (McAlister, Shockey). The first series, the defense did a good job of "bend, not break", they did give up a TD on the second series, but they are also two starters down (McKenzie, Vilma).
Overall, they looked very good, even the 3rd stringers were excellent.
Best play: Robert Mecham turning a 10 yard slant into a 60 yard TD and making the entire second string AZ DB's look like grade schoolers in the process, topped off by a beautiful faceplant stiffarm on the last defender...got the guy to commit to his legs, stepped back, and shoved his face right into the turf....beautiful....
I predict that if McAlister can stay healthy, the Saints will have the #1 offense in the NFL this season, no team has all the weapons they do, no one. If McAlister goes down, they're still among the most dangerous offenses out there....
I'M PSYCHED, IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!

I always love that feeling when I watch the first preseason game. It's like you've been away a long time, and come home.
Oh...and dark.... |

Thankfully, most Saints fans are not fairweather fans at all...

Being a displaced fan sucks. This is Patriots country up here. And I hate the Patsies.

Last season was an anomaly, a fluke, something that WON'T happen this season.
Tampa will field a winner about 3-4 seasons AFTER they get rid of Chucky.
If you're an NFC South fan, get used to seeing a LOT of black & gold in the post season for the foreseeable future. Pewter & red, not until Chucky's gone...pew-turd....an accurate assessment of the short term future of the Yucks.

Don't fret, according to Gard's "infallable logic" the Saints should have beaten the Bears in the NFC playoffs. But we know how that ended up.
Here's a link to much of Gard's "infallable logic" NFL Week 20 |

Gard is always so full of optomism, and sincere belief his Saints will be unbeatable. He actually convinces himself of this. He keeps talking of "flukes" involving recent other teams, all while ignoring the fact the BIGGEST fluke in recent memory was the Saints season two years ago. He fails to see they will go 8-8 or 9-7 this year, and only that good because they play in a crap division.
My friend Jive on the other hand, I think, is at least realistic. He loves his Bears, but I think deep down, he realizes, even though he'll never admit it, that the Bears best case this year is 7-9.
My Packers? I just don't know right now. I think it's conceivable they could go 12-4, and it's just as conceivable they could go 4-12. It all depends on how Aaron Rogers performs, and if they do what I expect them to do, which is play great defense and run the ball a lot...actually not unlike the successful Bears teams of a few years ago. |
