A forum about sax?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

is there a good forum about sax that you would reccomend?

It's for a friend who's looking at starting his journey in the sax's world and is trying to get a feeling around gear and other stuff.

By the way, if you think we should suggest him a brand / model (he's still undecided between alto and tenor sax), just let me know and I'll pass the advice on.

Thank you !

Paolo

I prefer the sound of a tenor sax. I'd go for that. Alto saxes sound too smooth for my taste.

Forums? Google came up with these:

http://forum.saxontheweb.net/ (seems like the biggest one)
http://www.saxophoneforum.com/
https://www.saxquest.com/forum.asp
http://www.breakfastroom.co.uk/

Oh GOD. I read that as a forum about sex at first and my first thought was the "no pics, no ____________" rule here and the hope that the people on that forum looked better than the ones on ours.

I think a forum named "talksax" would simply be full of frustrated single people who are not very good at typing.

I hoped to have some first hand experience (I guess we have some sax players here) but thank you for taking the time of finding those references, I'll pass them on meantime.

It'll be a be a nice challenge: my friend learning sax, me learning DB (hopefully..)

I am an, inactive, member of Sax on the Web. I found a lot of good information and knowledgeable people. But it is a very low activity forum compared to TB.

Sax on the Web is the one to beat. If your buddy is just starting, alto is the way to go. It's the one almost everyone starts on and it's pretty easy to move to any other sax from it. I started on a Yamaha YAS-23, and while not the nicest saxes in the world, you can get them fairly cheap (for a sax) used and they do the job.

If you want the best sax ever, go for a stripped sax with a troubled past. Crazy sax is always the best sax.
