Forum Runner - vBulletin App for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was browsing an old forum that I used to frequent (www.black-sabbath.com) and I found something interesting.

http://www.forumrunner.net/

This is an app that allows for clean use of vB forums. I THINK TalkBass runs on vb software doesn't it? Not entirely sure now that I think about it...anyway I recall once before hearing some talk about how it would be nice if TB could be set up nicer for the mobile devices, so I thought I'd mention this.

I just DLed the free version and it doesn't look like TB is supported... even though this place does appear to run on vB. Too bad, it's a great idea. Maybe it has to be added by the admins here?

Yeah it does have to be enabled by the admin, I just wasn't sure if Talkbass was on vb or not. Maybe the admin can enable this plugin for those of us to wish to use the app?

(also note, however, that in order to post and access full features, you have to pay the $2.99 for the full version)

Hey all, I'm the creator of Forum Runner (thanks Karrot for pointing this thread out)!

Indeed, the forum admin has to install a small plug-in but when he does you can buy the 1.99$ app and get support for the iPhone/iPod/iPad. The Android app should be done any day now as well.

If you guys have any issues installing it, let me know. We fully support vBulletin 3.6.12 (what this board is).

We also have branding support if you want your own app.

Rob

What's the benefit of this app over your mobile browser?

TB was pretty slow to load on iPhone 3G but on iPhone 4 it's so fast and easy that I don't see how I'd benefit from an app.

I know some vBulletin sites have security concerns around Tapatalk and have thus disabled it. Are those security concerns address and resolved with this app?

You don't have to do a lot of pinch and zooming, scrolling, panning, etc just to get to content and respond to posts. You can upload photos from your phone as attachments, etc.

Download "Forum Runner Free" in the app store and head to one of the sites on there to check it out. The free version has most of the functionality of the paid one (except you can't post).

My day job is working for the #2 networking company in the world doing kernel-level development, so security is something I design my code around. :-)

The tapatalk security issue is that they left a directory they created world-writable, so once a hacker leveraged into a system, they could write a .php file into the tapatalk directory thus being able to write whatever code they wanted to and execute it. (Eek!)

We definitely don't have that problem.

So to the admin: what are the chances of enabling this plugin?

Well cool. Thanks for the info. I'll give your app a shot when it is available for Android 2.2.

Probably JT,...or start a thread in the suggestion box.

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f61/

EDIT: Actually looks like there is a thread dedicated to viewing the forum from a mobile device where forum runner is mentioned.

TB for iPhone/PDA/Mobile

Doesn't look like Paul or admin have looked into it quite yet.

Ahh it's already there. I never even knew there was a Suggestion Box lol

Anyway I hope this comes into play soon, I'd like to not have to zoom in everywhere to post.
