Haven't been there in a few years, but Porky's is a pretty popular place to play....there's a couple others, but like I said....been a few years, so....*shrug* I think there's a couple places in Visalia and Hanford you can play too. Being that the Navy Base is there in Lemoore, you might be able to get a following.

Visalia seems to have a better scene at the moment. The Fresno scene seems small for the population, but then again i've never lived anywhere else. The most regular gigs I get are local theater/high school musicals. I'd rather play funk/rock/latin jazz myself, but finding decent personalities to play with has been challenging. Yes, lots of cover bands...that's why I spend most of my time in the garage/lounge i've set up.

Good luck.

Fresno seems to be pretty dead last I remember. Gigs and venues were very limited outside of community theater or high school type stuff.

I have to agree. Is Fresno non-negotiable?

One of the nice things in California is that you have a CSU in nearly most normal sized towns. Does not make the town to a college town, though, due to the size of the college.

PS: You could do nice investigations about the music scene by looking at the craiglist musician postings in various cities, to find out what the scene is, ex mostly looking for blues players or cover band members versus looking for people doing originals.

Not sure if it's still around, but Rivers Night Club (might be called something else now) in Kingsburg was pretty popular right before I left the area in '05. Live music and what not.

Visalia seems to have a more receptive audience for whatever reason. They have more success with small music festivals and whatnot. Tower District is still there....visit and tell me what you think. You'll have to do some more research, I'm not the best source of info for this place...

Fresno SUCKS.

Ecxept for Bulldogs games, NO ONE goes out and does anything.

My old band played many a show in fresno. It would be 10pm downtown on a saturdaynight, and every bar was DEAD.

Everyone is kind of a homebody up there because there are a lot of dirt bag gang bangers in fresno. Its a cess pool. And not very safe.

Visalia doesnt have anything resembling a metal scene, but they do have a decent reggae/acoustic hipster scene.

The central and southern valley have way to many metal groups for any to stand out.

Oh, and Fresno sucks.
