I go damn hate it. It's boggy, buggy, and is slowing my phone down. Anyone go back to ios 3? Any issues involved with your apps not working if you do?

Took me about 2 hours just to get it on my phone and then I figured out it does absolutely nothing for a 3g besides slow it down. Since then I've gone back to 3 and used a backup I had to make sure my apps would work.

They're about to drop 4.1, which Jobs says will cure the bugginess in the 3G.

^ Course Jobs says a lot of things. Listening to him talk you'd think each iPad is individually crafted by Harry Potter.

Oh, they got you too did they?

Same thing happened to my Mum, they make you pay to restore it back to the old one too. Although there is a way around it, it took her a couple of hours to get it working again though.

Its a brilliant scheme. "Hmm, my iPhone is acting pretty slow, maybe I should go get the new one".

It works flawlessly on the iPhone 4. The hardware on the 4 is way faster than the 3G, so I can see why it doesn't work well. My girlfriends dad says it works really well on his 3GS.

Yea I hate it too, mine has been infuriatingly slow. Hopefully 4.1 fixes this ****.

I have a 3GS phone and found a video on youtube that shows how to downgrade from 4.0.2 (the latest release, which sucked the life out of my iPhone) to 4.0.1 (which you can easily jailbreak by going to jailbreakme.com, if you are so inclined.)

I don't know for sure, but I would bet that it would work with the iPhone 3G (disclaimer: do this at your own risk!)

Hopefully this helps with the sluggishness...

I saw a review today (don't remember where...linked from Techmeme.com) where they said that 4.1 on the 3G got rid of the sluggishness and was faster than 4.0 at every task. 4.1 is supposed to be out this week.

Lordy I hope so. I've had programs crashing left and right and my phone has been rather slow. I thought this stuff was supposed to "Just work." Instead it doesn't work and runs down my battery.

There's nothing iOS 4 can do that a jailbreaked 3.0 can't do just as well.

So no, I never upgraded to 4 and won't until/if it's ever as fast as 3.0... which I seriously doubt.

I downgraded because of this - didn't have any problems using the instructions here: http://lifehacker.com/5572003/how-to...s-4-to-ios-313

I'll give 4.1 a whirl (supposed to drop tomorrow), but I've got the above article bookmarked just in case. Only thing I miss after downgrading is the ability to edit ipod playlists on the phone instead of having to change them in itunes and sync.

I downgraded my sons 3G this way with no problems BUT the Backup I had on my computer didn't work. It stated something to the effect OS3 was too old for the iOS4 backup info on iTunes/my computer.

I had already synced enough times that I no longer had an iOS3 backup, so I used the stock file the article links to.

I'll wait to see what happens with 4.1. Otherwise I'm doing what Nino did.

There is also an article on the Mac life website that explains how to downgrade your software from 4.0 to 3.whatever I did it for my wifes 3G and it worked fine but some of the apps do not work with that os anymore but it wasn't many
