A fun thing to do with some threads.. Just did a little experiment. Went to a forum(Basses), and just clicked on one. Lets say it was a comment about a certain bass manufacturer, anything along those lines. Now, clicking on the last page the thread has totally deviated to another topic, and basically turns out nasty. Is this an internet forum thing in general? I notice it is kind of common around talkbass for some reason. Is this a worthless topic? Probably, actually it is. Have a great Sunday everyone! |
tl;dr |
well, this seems to be a corollary to Godwin's law, which is, in essence, that once a thread gets to a certain length, the subject of Nazis or Hitler will come up. i know that does not really happen around here and i also know that was not what you meant, but it seems like we should have some kind of principal along those lines. a thread's potential for turning nasty is directly proportional to the length of the thread. just a thought... ![]() |
Dave, That is exactly what I meant. Godwin's law, good to know! |
Mixing 410 cabs with 1x15 cabs is stupid and you all suck. See what I did there? |

The only time I see any nastyness in the Basses forum is in the "Does Wood Matter" threads which there are multitudes of. I see most of the nastyness in the OT, but most of the people here get along pretty well compared to other web forums. The Mods keep it cool, and I like that. |
It just seems recently to be getting worse, could be just me feelin it. Lol |

Of course everything you see today is quite tame by historic internet standards. If you are old enough and were on the internet back then the USENET flame wars are legendary. And they were often quite entertaining! I actually miss those days; civility is highly over-rated. :D On the other hand it is far easier to get useful information from today's moderated forums. Most threads here seem quite civil. There are a few topics that pretty much always get a bit heated. Tone wood is one, low frequency amplifier/speaker systems is another. And, I triple dog dare you to spell it Squire! Ken |

Just the other day I was thinking "you know I should be more concerned about what I eat." |
