| Auto Repair with John - Please Read! - It's Worth It! I've been dying to tell this story somewhere - I could write a book on this guy!
------------------------------------------------------------
Years ago I was working as a siding applicator, and was working with a guy named John. John had just purchased a “74" (maybe "76”?) Chevy 6 cylinder truck and we would take turns driving our vehicles to the job sites. Shortly after John discovered he was losing water, and we found a VERY small hole in the radiator. I told him there was a radiator place right down the road that would braise it for $45/50. John ignored it, and just kept adding water. After a month of this the hole had grown in size, and the truck just stopped running on the side of the freeway, and found out the spray from the hole was spraying all over the distributor shorting it out. So John wiped the inside of the cap – re-started the truck, and refilled the radiator. Guess what happened a little further down the freeway – it re-pressurized – sprayed all over the distributor, and shorted it out … again. He decided something needed to be done so over the next 2 weeks he kept buying the auto-parts stores radiator fix kits. He purchased 3 of those cans of that rabbit $hit looking stuff, and 5 small canisters of “Silver Seal”. The hole was so big none of it worked other than severely reducing the amount of water necessary for cooling not to mention wasting $50/60. After over a month of this stupidity, and it over-heating/shorting out - I just wanted to shake him up and say ”don’t you see what’s going on here – just get it braised!” At about the month, and a half mark it finally overheated so bad it seized (just like I told him it would). He spent $300 on a new head, and got it running again, but not very good because it got so hot all the engine parts dis-figured, and was blowing small pieces of metal out the pipe along with pure black smoke that smelled pretty bad. Only one more problem … the hole in the radiator. With all the money he spent – he still didn’t get the radiator fixed – just kept adding water, and burned it up AGAIN! He had the same guy put a SECOND head on it for about another $300 as he couldn’t stop laughing nor me. I barely ran with pure black smoke, and pieces of metal blowing out the pipe virtuously no compression anymore! John finally sold it for $100 parts truck. (LOL)
This story is slightly condensed, and absolutely true. Do you have any idea how hard it was not to bust laughing in a state of hysteria!
There’s also the story about broken windshield wipers, and the chalkline (use your imagination)
There’s also the story about 3 flat tires all on the same day, and 4 packages of tire patch/plug repair kit with the end result being finally needing a new set of tires.
There’s also the time …..
