Battlefield 3: Caspian Border Gameplay - YouTube
For PC, big 64 player battles like that. That was some of the most exciting trailer footage I've seen. It seriously looks stunning, and sounds stunning too.
Games are just getting scary good looking by the minute. There was a GTA mod that redid the rendering and made it almost photorealistic.

Lot's of other technologies are being developed and tested that will raise the bar in graphics too. There was one where they scrapped the idea of using polygons altogether, and used a particle system to add immense levels of detail (to save your pc from blowing up, they made a system where it selected which particle to render according to what resolution you used and how many pixels, etc).
Crazy stuff.

| | | | Wow at the mobile games. Perhaps in just a few years they will have the capability to play the full on games of today.
It's hard to imagine that just a little over a decade ago we barely started on 3d.

as a long-time battlefield player, I'm eagerly anticipating BF3. And to think, I thought Bad Company 2 graphics were good. This game is going to be a milestone for at least a few more years.

However when the new one comes out, the mainstream game developers will have a lot more incentive to push the limit of their games, as more than just the PC gamers will be able to reap the benefits.
Just a rumour, but I recently heard they were talking about basically making the 360 like the new Xbox arcade, and then dedicating the new console to a more hardcore gaming platform. Games will still be released for the 360, and can be played on the new console, but the more serious releases will be on the new console. I think it could actually work quite well.

Graphics may be a little dated now, but damn it's a good game!
