To think the umpteen meetings and thousands of dollars allocated to end up at this. Gap
There. Arial Black. Where's my 30 grand?

I was really preparing myself to hate it, but I think it works better than their previous logo. I just don't like the font being black. Not that I shop there anyway.

Safe bet that dozens of incredibly accomplished graphic artists, strategic planners, researchers and all sorts of retail and marketing executives worked for months on it. People fought. Worked weekends. Somebody actually quit when they took the serifs off.
Seen it happen before. Its actually kind of sad.
Good luck with the new logo. Hope everybody storms in an buys denims and t-shirts. |

As noted above, I can guarantee that people worked "hard" on this and went through a lot of debate, yet it could easily be made by an 8th grader in Photoshop.
They could've at least gotten someone to use Illustrator and create something a little less bland. Just my two cents. |

A media hoo-hah about how bad the new logo is, is brilliant promotion, viral marketing at its finest.

But saying "I could type Gap in Arial too" is pretty much focusing on the tree that hides the forest. There's usually an awful lot of work even behind this. I'm guessing that the design firm started with some awesome proposals, but the Correctness and Good Taste Commitee at Gap started issuing demands, that escalated into three months of dull revisions, until one day the whole agency threw their arms up in the air and said "oh screw that".

| | THIS HAND OF MINE GLOWS WITH AN AWESOME POWER! | | Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: USA; Mitchellville, Maryland | | | 1) You left out the blue square which, imo, makes the logo.
2) It's better than they're old one. The old one really struck me as the logo of a high fashion business because it actually looks pretty classy. The Gap has some nice stuff but their not exactly high fashion. They're new logo looks much more accessible. Not that that will really change anything, just my thoughts on it. Lots of companies are changing they're logos to a more minimalist contemporary look anyway, they could be doing it just to be cool.

In other news, I think I'm going to change my avatar. I know the square's not perfect, but I only had a few minutes. |
