GC's Pathetic 4th of July Weekend List Event

I just got the Guitar Center 4th of July Weekend List Event sale coupon for 15% off in the mail today. This "sale" sounds pretty pathetic to me.

The card reads: "15% off applies to single-item purchases of $299 or more," blah blah blah. Here's the part that gets me. "The following manufacturers are excluded at their request. Apple, Bose, ESP, EVH, Fender, some Gibson and Epiphone, Gretsch guitars, Ibanez, Jackson, Martin, Mesa Boogie, Peavey, QSC, some Roland/Boss products, Squire, Taylor, and select Korg, Marshall, Vox."

You have just gotta love corporate greed. Anything worth anything isn't going to be on sale.

You don't think you're being greedy by wanting certain products sold to you at a discounted rate? You're watching your bottom line, the company is watching its. Looks the same to me. Mind you, I don't have a problem with you wanting to get the most for your dollar, I just find the finger pointing to be a bit out of place considering your angle.

No, I don't consider myself being greedy. I'm willing to spend money if it's something I feel is worth the cost.

I wouldn't say I'm pointing fingers either. I'm merely pointing out that most anything in the store worth owning won't be discounted. There's IMO, not much incentive for one to want to take advantage of this "sale."

To be fair, what you merely pointed out was that a company was being greedy for not reducing their prices for the 4th of July. Your motive is keeping as much money in your pocket as possible, is it not?

I received a 20% off coupon from Musician's Friend the other day.
That was just what I needed to pull the trigger on a new Fender bass I've been wanting.
I got all the way to the online checkout and entered the coupon code, only to have it rejected as an excluded item. Sure enough, in the very fine print on the card was a link to the excluded items, including all Fender products. I called the company thinking that maybe I could get some kind of discount, but no dice. I politely told the woman on the phone that I guess we all lose on this one.

You quoted the list above from their website. Also on the website is a list of all the brands that they carry. I quick count revealed about 850 brands. There are about 130 (I might have missed a row) excluded from the sale. I don't see the crime.

Maybe I was raised weird, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a coupon without some kind of exclusion. I look for them before even considering using it.
