I love Steve Carell, and it looks pretty worthwhile, but I'm about to go see it in an hour, so before I leave, does anyone have a report on it?

I loved it. Very, very funny. I have never seen the old Get Smart stuff before, but I don't need to. I loved the movie. |

| | | | I want to see it badly. I'm even more hyped to see it after a few critics have slagged it for it's old school style of comedy. Imho that was part of the charm of the original TV
series that I loved as kid back in the 60's when I watched it. |

What I meant was that, I didn't have to see the old ones to really understand this, or follow it. |

I'm going to hold off real judgment until I see it but so far I think that the previews don't look to be a sharp as the original in its humor, as someone else above put it. But then again, a lot of that could be just the fact that the movie is set in today's time period (of course) so it's going to stand up differently against the old episodes.

I've loved his movies except for that awful noah flick, but Carell still has long way to go to match the timing/tone of a master dead pan like Don Adams.
In the previews I've seen The Rock gets bigger laughs. That can't be a good thing.

It's still funny, and surprisingly not as dated as I thought it would be- they had gags about "shoe waiting" which perfectly bridged the old gag with modern times. Max is married to Agent 99, and they have the "Cone of Silence" installed over their bed. I'm sure they might have similar stuff in the new version, but Don Adams owned that role. |

I'm not optimistic that the movie can stand up to the original

I used to fake being sick to stay home and watch that one when I was a kid. I liked it - but I liked it as it stood on it's own. Not in comparison with the show. We all enjoyed it, and laughed through the whole thing.
