Getting a bank refund

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so I've been in a wierd financial situation lately. I've run my bank account close to being overdrawn, but I still had about $25 left in it. My bank does online banking, and I don't get paper statements anymore. I accidently paid a bill out of that account and went overdrawn. My online statement showed I was overdrawn, but then I looked again and the payment was gone (I had borrowed money from my parents to pay the bill because I realized I had accidently paid the bill with the precarious account), and I was back to being at $25. On Tuesday I deposited $3k into the account. And now it looks like that the payment that made me over drawn came back, and I was charged twice for overdraft fees. The day I put the 3k in, I was charged two more overdraft fees. And then once more today (despite having thousands of dollars in the account). Now its my understanding that my online statement is official, as I receive that statement in lieu of a paper statement at the end of each month.

Now heres my question. If I looked at the statement, and it said I had a positive balance the day I put the money in, how can I be charged overdraft fees? And how should I go about rectifying this situation? The bill has been paid, thats for sure, so if I did pay the bill twice, the water company has a credit for the amount of my bill (which they would probably give me back in cash, I've dealt with them in person and they're really a pretty reasonable company). The overdraft charges amount to over $300, which for me is quite a bit of money. Is what they did legal? Am I going to get screwed by a local company again? HALP!!!

maybe you submitted another payments with zero balance in your account, some transactions can take days before they appear in your statment, maybe you should try to get one of those overdrawn insurance

sounds like boa.

BoA has a little thing where they like to line up all your charges from most cost to least cost so that it drains your account faster. That way they can charge you 35 dollars for buying a 59 cent candy bar, plus the other things that bounce. Good luck getting it back, before I left BoA I was charge 175 dollars worth of charges 2 days after christmas, and they still pretty much told me to take a walk. They claimed that they were only "allowed" to refund one charge a year.

How'd you guys know it was BoA? The thing that bothers me is that my statement said that I didn't have a negative balalnce. They've also been adding overdraft fees after I put money in. If they don't refund it in full I'm taking my business somewhere else.

Have you considered talking in person to an actual human being about this? That seems the most advisable course of action.

Here's a battle plan:

Withdraw every penny you have in BoA and go to another bank. Don't discuss it, just DO IT.

BoA has the worst customer service in banking I've ever been subjected to.

If you have a WAMU (Washington Mutual) in your area, make them your next stop, they were great to deal with back when I could (they don't have branches in NC ).

I personally have had problems with WAMU and Wachovia and not one with BofA. Everyone has a different opinion, I like Bank of America because when I make a deposit at the ATM, the money is in my account immediately, unlike when I was with Wachovia. It is considered discretionary, but since I know the checks I deposit are legit it is good as gold.

So I went in and told them what happened, and I tried to be business like. They basically told me to sit and spin. So I closed the account.

Then my girlfriend closed her account.

And so I called my parents, and they closed their accounts.

Suck it BoA.

I just opened an account w/ BoA last week. I deposited my paycheck on Friday AM, then this morning went to make a purchase...and find my account was overdrawn. When I called them to find out what the f*** was going on, they tell me "we have no record of your deposit" (although I gave them all the details from the deposit receipt that was in my wallet). Then they tell me it will be 24-72 hours before they can figure it all out, and they'll credit me for any overdraft charges. Can anyone tell me (bankers especially) if I can get something more out of them for my inconvenience??? I am LIVID that I have to potentially wait 3 days to get MY money that they can't seem to track down.

Get the money straight, then WITHDRAW EVERY PENNY, go open an account elsewhere, and chalk it up to experience. They won't give you any extra, and based on my experiences with them, will probably try to find something to charge you for - but don't let them, get every single penny back, and if possible, do it in CASH so they can't f*** with you later.

...can you tell I really don't like BoA?
