Nah, I have one im definately getting, but i want more lol.

I'm getting a bass clef somewhere, but thats hardly unique or anything unless I make my anus one of the dots.

But I was thinking about getting something else, I figured I would get some unique responses from here. Don't worry guys, I'm not getting anything I'm not 100% certain about, I'm not a noonan lol.

So what are you getting then? Just as an FYI, the chest HURTS! If it gets anywhere near your sternum you will "feel the burn"! I'm with the other guys though, if you don't know what you're getting by now then cancel the appointment until you've figured it out. You'll just piss the artist off trying to figure something out. Also, if it's over your heart make sure it's something truly important to you. I have my deceased brother over my heart....WAY more important than anything music related.

The bass cleff what probably going to be on my back near my left shoulder blade, I've spoken to the artist and I've told him that I wanted a bass clef and he offered to design some different tattoos and show them to me the week before, regardless it's going to be a bass clef. As for other tattoos theres no definite guarantee that I'll get something else but some amusing idea's from talkbassists would be good.

My main thought at the moment is a blank "hello my name is" sticker on my butt-cheek or pubic line so that ladies can write their names on it. I found that idea rather amusing.

If you truly want a unique tattoo, figure out what you want to spend (ballpark). Find an artist who you trust and whose work you admire (hint: spend some time portfolio gazing). Make an appointment with that artist and tell him/her that you want an original piece and you have $xxx to spend. Give them some ideas (e.g. I like dragons, I play bass, I like custard pie, etc.) This will give the artist guidelines and that's important because for all the artist knows, you're into Ricky Martin and spandex pants. So give the artist a theme and let him/her be an artist and create something for you. YOu will get some amazing work when you do that. Trust me.
As for the chest, someone mentioned it being painful, it certainly has some tender areas. Although I can't speak for the sternum as mine remains untouched. But I have a piece that covers my entire left pec and for the most part it didnt' hurt...until the artist started digging into the fleshy side just near my armpit. Holy jesus that hurt...
I'll also say a big +1 to canceling your appointment if you don't know what you want. See here's what happens: people, young people who have no tattoos, start seeing older people (and young people) with tattoos and they decide "hey I want one of those." So they run to the nearest shop and get anything etched into thier skin just so they can say, "I have a tattoo. Look at me!" But as the years go by, that Tasmanian Devil looses a lot of his coolness. So that same guy who got the thing to begin with ends up in another shop (a real shop if he's lucky) and the tasmanian devil is either getting covered or removed. SO my unsolcicited advice is, "do it right the first time." Tattoo artists aren't going anywhere. When you know what you want (or are ready to let the artist deisgn something) there will be plenty of artists. So unless you have a terminal disease and only weeks left to live, wait. You're asking a bunch of strangers on the internet what you should have permanently etched into your skin...think about that. My $.02

Can't speak with experience on those areas BUT I can say every tattoo hurts. Your pain threshold, area it's applied and size all affect the severity. The wrist is a mean mofo, just getting near the sternum burns and the inside of your upper arm hurts a good bit as well. From what I hear the ribcage is a killer as well.

A bass clef is fine but do something with it. Anybody can get a bass clef but as someone else pointed out, make it yours. Do you like the ocean? Incorperate waves. For instance, a million people have tribals but both of mine are marbled like stone and have stormy backgrounds. It's something different. As for the "My name is" and the public line, well keep in mind, lasers hurt too.

I can't say from experience about the stomach but I can tell you that the waistline freakin' hurts. I have both of my outer thigh covered and the peices extend up on to my waistline. The legs didn't hurt so much but when they got into the fleshy waistline area...I wanted to stop. Also, the back of my thighs hurt a great deal.
I know an older guy; an old hippie type, who has lots of tattoos. He said that the stomach is by far the most painful area he has ever had tattooed. He said he almost passed out when getting his stomach done.

I second this notion. I spent 3 and a half hours last October getting the left side of my chest done, including the entire clavicle and very close to the sternum. I still have half the shading and all the colour to come yet. I'm really not in a hurry. Not for the pain on my chest, but the pain on my wallet, and the fact the waiting time is over 6 months for this very popular artist!!!

My thought is, dont get a tat until you KNOW what tat you want...

And, if you gotta do the chest, do it on one of the pecs...

Sounds like you need further discernment before going under the needle.
