Kwesi,...I'm not one to tell you what to do,...but do a little research before you go to the mall for a piercing.

I recommend you go to a pro and get pierced with a needle. Even if you don't have any extravagant plans for your piercings.

+1

A better experience overall, and the concensus is that it's safer.

Of course, everyone knows you should ask the guy rocking a man-bag for fashion advice.

As to you Kwesi, I believe your man-card has been long gone for a while, so no need to worry about losing that

Isn't that why people get tats / ears pierced / wear manbags / whatever? At least be honest, the underlying reason people do things to their appearance is for fashion / to be hip within whatever they think is cool for their clique.

Its probably best that way. I am sure the piercings will look very fetching. Be sure to post pics.

Kwesi, seriously, read these:

http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Piercing_Gun
http://news.bmezine.com/2003/05/09/p...blishers-ring/

Don't go to Clare's. Find a reputable local body piercing shop and go there. It'll hurt less, the stainless steel / titanium jewellery won't corrode and will be easier to clean, the placement will be correct and it'll be far more hygienic. And, no matter what they tell you, never put alcohol, bactine or any other chemical on a piercing to clean it. Salt water, mixed to the consistency of tears, is all you need to clean a piercing.

Not being american i assume you mean Claires Accessories?

If so, avoid!!! They use a gun to pierce your ear and it shatters the small bones in your ear. Go needle all the way!!!

Actually hurts less, cleaner, and they can advise on CORRECT aftercare!

A gun piercing in the cartilage (ie, anywhere on the ear other than the lobe) runs the risk of shattering the cartilage and collapsing the ear, due to the stud being fairly blunt (think Magnum bullet) but there's no actual bones you can shatter...

If you want your ears pierced, ask your guitarist to turn down. Apparently, there is only one direction his volume knob will turn, so that should do it for you.

Cool A geezer speaks...

Back in my day, we did it ourselves with a fat sewing needle, some thread (to keep it open) and generous amounts of rubbing alcohol. It hurt a lot... and we liked it that way!!
(At least, that's what I did when I was 13, in 1970. I still wear earrings... my 5-year-old daughter particularly likes the silver half moon.)

Don't listen to the fashion police guy ... do what you want.
But, I agree-- go to a real piercing place, not a mall joint. And make *sure* to prevent any infection, until it completely heals.

Back in '82 my GF at the time used a ice cube to numb my ear lobe and a needle and thread to pierce it. I still have that (one and only) piercing and never had a problem with it.

Another +1 to a good piercing shop.

When I got my first ear piercing, I went to clairs and it got pretty infected. Nothing too bad, but it wasn't pretty.

I'm by no means an authority on piercings, but if you've thought it through and you really want your ears pierced, all power to you.
These guys have a good point though, I would go to a pro. If you want it that bad, you should get it done right. You don't want a halfassed piercing you might regret later.

Pics are required after this, for reasons not at all related to photoshop.
