Getting Nervous about a possible lost USPS package

Sign in to disble this ad
So i sent a pedal back under the return policy. It was going from here in minneapolis to new jersey. I shipped it 2 weeks ago and it's still not there.

i don't have a receipt. Nor did i buy the insurance or delivery confirmation. Also i paid cash. I tried checking my bank account for this months purchases so it must have been paid for with cash.

is there anything i can do? without having any sort of documentation can the post office do anything? Even if i paid with cash, aren't they responsible for up to $100 for a lost package

how long can it possibly take for a package to get from mn to nj? i don't think i can report a package until it's been 30 days

Been there, done that, and got screwed. Without insurance, USPS won't cover lost packages. Mine even had a tracking number.

If you're lucky, you might get the package returned or sent when they find it. I got lucky once and got the package about 3 months later.

Without the insurance or delivery confirmation, you're pretty much boned. Priority mail tends to take about 2-3 days anywhere in the US. First Class can take a bit longer.

USPS is a bit better about lost packages than UPS though. If they find the package eventually, it will be returned to you. (Thats more in the scenario that it gets put in the wrong place, and it sits for awhile. I've had packages returned to me that I sent months ago)

I'm just trying to understand why someone would send something of value without insurance. Hopefully it works out.

i've been using this same post office for the past couple of years and have always gotten insuracne or delivery confirmation. for some reason i must have been in a rush or not thought about it since i've never had anything go wrong. And at that time i was going in once a week for the past couple of months. The one time I mail something back without the insurance something happens. Go figure
