Getting respect

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay. Therapy time. I will lie on the couch and you sit in your comfortable chair and get out your notebook.

How can I get more respect (Rodney). It seems from work to personal interactions that I am not listened to or respected. One of the reasons why I quit my previous band was that I was not listened to when I gave advice. Most of the time I ended up being right. I was really frustrating.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You want to be listened to, but you play bass- this does not add up.

Either put on 50 pounds of muscle or be a little more assertive. Make others take note of you, don`t just hang in the back.

Don't talk unless you have something to say...Silent Bob is the perfect example of this...when he opens his mouth everyone else shuts up.

Also this goes back to all that dominance crap, you have to via for position in talking/mating/controlling the television...pretty much everything...and the only way to do is to be intimidating.

How do you carry yourself?
How is your self confidence?
How is your self esteem?

Are you generally quiet or outgoing?
Do "all eyes on me?" happen when you walk in a room?

Does what you waer go with your persoanl being? Yes this does matter if you want others to notice just whoin the heck you are..sight is first impression.

What do you see when you look in a mirror?

We teach other people how to treat us is what Dr. Phil contends. To a point, I agree. Especially in the area of respect.

I had an issue with this for a long time. I was always the class clown, joking around with people, cracking jokes, being sarcastic almost non-stop. People never respected me because I was screwing around all the time.

Sho did. I find that he does have some practical advice here and there. You just have to go over it with a fine tooth comb before you repeat it.

First and foremost, respect yourself. Second, respect others. Third, choose the time, venue, and audience for your ideas.

If you want people to listen to you, quit being so frustrating.

You might also want to choose your "fights" if you're always arguing or talking a lot on every subject, you most likely won't be listened to when it matters to you, kinda a cry wolf thingy.

Complete some quests, and surely your respect points will go up.

You can't just run around doing whatever you want.

give responsibility to others, at least in the small stuff.
give credit to others
under-promise and over-deliver, never the other way around
keep all of your small commitments...ALL of them
never say what should be done. instead, define the problem and propose the solution.

etc never salt your steak before you try it etc
