I actually just discovered these same pics, like yesterday. Pretty crazy.
Nice post.

Really like the pics. Can really put things into perspective sometimes.

I've seen that recently, great stuff. In a way it's kind of creepy at how a place can look so serene or normal but go back 60 or so years and it was anything but.

Love the old pics! I've quite a few interesting ones as my Mom and her side of the family went thru WWII in Germany (Wiesbaden). My Grandfather was an officer in the Wehrmacht, in a cavalry (reconnaissance) outfit and spent 2 yrs in New York state as a captured POW after the war ended. Then he was released and went back to Germany.

My uncles were on the Eastern front and 2 of them survived that mess and they immigrated to Canada after release by the Russians. Them....no pics. And they never told stories. Brr.

Yeah, a lot of folks from Europe emigrated to Canada after WW II in an effort to leave all memory of the war behind them...

What I like about the photomontage linked to in the OP is that it helps to humanize distant, often dry and detached episodes of history.

As does this: THE GREAT WAR IN COLOUR BEGINING OF THE WAR Part 1/5
