First of all, this isn't Hotwheels, it's a similar kind of thing called Darda. Darda cars have built in spring motors that are wound by pulling the car backwards on a surface (or just spinning the back wheels backwards). If I recall correctly, Darda can also make use of the pieces that power the cars externally (although it's been since early elementary school since I've played with these things, so I could be wrong), however they did not seem to make use of them in the video. This leads me to believe that they made this video in numerous takes, and stopped to rewind the car periodically.

Jeez, way to bring the room down...
As I did that kind of stuff in my childhood, I loved it.

Regardless, it's still badass. |

I think the original idea comes from Tomy with their Bit Char-g cars.

I think the original idea comes from Tomy with their Bit Char-g cars. | My father worked in the toy design department at Mattel in the early '70s. At the time, they had the Hot Wheels "Sizzlers" which were an electric motor powered by a rechargable battery.
This is the earliest battery-powered car of this type I know of. |

Still have a thousand pieces lying around somewhere around the house.

This is the earliest battery-powered car of this type I know of. | Man, Sizzlers ROCKED! My parents would make me quit playing with them during the evening. The noise of them flying around the high bank curves drove them crazy. I also had the less exciting Chopcycles. |

Still, I never had a Hot Wheel track growing up. Which made no sense because I probably had around a hundred or more Hot Wheel and Matchbox cars.
