Gibson Hiring

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi TBers-

Just helping a friend out whose daughter works at Gibson - she's been given the task of hiring 200 or so new people to keep up with the demand for new guitars at the Gibson factory here in Nashville. Manufacturing and guitar building experience is a plus, pay rate, 10 - 14 an hour. Feel free to pass along to those who may be interested. PM me for contact info.

Thanks, Ike

Tempting, but long commute. I'm hoping Martin's got some openings soon though

Too long of a commute for me. Besides, I'd probably ruin their incredibly low quality standards.

I'd be glad to be the next guy to get payed for screwing up fret work, blemishing finishes and wiring pickups badly.

Only problem is Nashville is too far.

at that rate of pay, who do they expect to attract. qualified luthiers and techs are worth much more than that. that's an insult.

Gibson is a guitar factory not a craft shop, which means they need factory workers. 10-14 dollars/hr is about right for that type of work.

still, there is a certain amount of craftsmanship rquired in instrument building. you're not going to find it @ that price point. you can make that working in a grocery store.

But discounts on rotting heads of lettuce aren't nearly as tempting as discounts on poorly made Les Pauls.

For a young musician, I think it would likely be an amazing experience.

i worked there for a while, good people, nice environment. Gave me a new respect for Gibson. They are mass produced, but everything is still done by hand except for the body carving. I used to clean paint off of the necks. Gave me a great session of carpal tunnel and tendonitis! plus i got to cut my finger wide open with a razor blade...still have that scar....i'm kinda proud of it. i'd go back if they stuck me somewhere else and I didn't have a degree...
