No, there haven't been 10 threads a day on this subject for the last couple of days. This is the first time anyone has heard anything about Gibson and the illegally obtained woods.

I was dissapointed the other one got closed for getting too political. Much like this site, it has been difficult to get more info on this story without a serious slant to it. Being a musician, it is of utmost interest. However, most stories on it have had a decidedly anti-govt take, and I quite honestly am not sure what to believe.

Maybe we can learn more details while avoiding right/left wing slants or getting this too political.

Based on what I've heard of Gibson's mgmt, not sure I believe these quotes.

Thanks for being objective NOLA. I only possted because I thought it to be an interesting read. NOT, for any political slant. The other posters on here seem to wanna take the "Troll" route. Sad! But, I should've expected that reaction. People tend to not like stories that invade their "Life bubble". I just wanted to get opinions on the story. Not so much the insults for posting. oh well.....

OR, perhaps some of us have just heard enough on the topic, being that we've easily seen 5 different threads (or more) in regards to this issue all over TB.

I'm really interested to hear a take from some other industry people. One post in another thread said it was Gibson not Martin bc of where the CEO's donate. I'm not buying that foolishness. Which makes me wonder, why Gibson 2x in 3 years instead of Fender or Martin for instance. They must be doing something differently is all I can think at this point.

All I can say is I emailed Sadowsky regarding my build to learn more about where/when/how my Madagascar RW board was acquired. They responded with a quite detailed explanation that assured me I was not contributing to the current deforestation going on there now. When you get to a big co like Gibson, you cant ask such specifics directly. Beauty of small companies with great cust service.

Hmm, I just saw the one that got closed. I missed the others (been busy, so not surprised).

If true I'm not surprised, from the earliest posts I read that part of the issue are the laws regarding the exporting of the wood from Madagtascar and not our internal laws, but that our laws require we adhere to theirs which indicate the wood has to be worked before shipping, not sent as raw material. As much as I would hate to have a government agency tell someon to outsource or face criminal procedings I don't think that's quite what we're seeing here.

Not "trolling" as has been suggested, but there's been at least 8 threads on this already. I once predicted there would be more threads on this story than actual instruments confiscated.

It appears I am correct.
