Girl advice? (Wait, that title sounds lame...)

Alright, so I need some help on this one.

So my ex-girlfriend is trying to set me up with this girl she knows. Coolest ex-girlfriend ever. So I've been texting this girl for about a week now, and it's going pretty well. I like her and plan on asking her out, but not until I actually meet her (which will, in all likelihood, be tomorrow). I asked my friends for advice on the situation, but teenage boys are the most irrational bunch on the planet. One friend said ask her out ASAP, and said do it over text (which in my opinion is a stupid and immature way to go about it) whereas another friend told me to hang out with her first. His actual recomendation was invite her to band practice and do it afterwards.

I'm kinda hellbent on doing it soon, but I'm not sure how to approach the situation, and I know my friends sure as hell don't know either.

Advice from my fellow TBers?

No pics, no girl.

I would meet with her in person first. Asking her out by text is kind of lame. Letting her watch you at band practice would be cool, but I wouldn't do that for your first time meeting her face to face.

DO NOT invite a girl to band practice. Being a part of the band, this may be hard to imagine, but this is one of those activities that is intensely enjoyable to do but wrist-slittingly boring to watch. If you're going to ask her out, asking her to come watch you have a good time with your buddies is not the way to go. You were right to second-guess your friends.

Doing it over text just reeks of not having confidence, so I decided that was out from the beginning. Band practice is a little out of the question until I get my P bass out of the shop anyway, but you're right, that's not a good way to first meet someone.

And yeah, Mike's right... I sat in on my cousin's band practice once... I was ready to leave pretty quickly.

You're not doing it right. My band practices involves playing pool and watching golf and/or tennis on tv.

As much as I'd like to stay on topic, I do have to interject and say that my band practice consists of playing, eating, videogames and then a contest to see how can double bass pedal faster. It's pretty awesome.

Frankly, I shouldn't give advice. I'm baddd with females, but it's 12:14 in the morning so here it goes. Wait until you see her and like talk to her and whatever; if you feel like asking her out just do it. She might say yes. She might say no. It doesn't really matter. Just do what your gut tells you.

Jmatt has a point though... there are some people that you just can't stand in person, and you never really know how things like this turn out.
