Giving away Cascade hop rhizomes (season 2)

Sign in to disble this ad
It's that time of year again and my Cascade hops are wakening from their winter slumber.

I have plenty of rhizomes (roots) to offer anyone who wants to plant some of their own and I'm giving them away just like last year. See this thread for details:
Giving away Cascade hop rhizomes

Those who are interested, should first do a little online research about how to properly grow them and where they can be successfully cultivated, and if it sounds like something you are seriously intending to do, PM me with your address and I will send you 3 sections of hop roots, each about 5 inches long. I will cover the cost of shipping (CONUS only and using USPS). The package will be a standard 6" X 10" bubble envelope mailer.

All in the cause of advancing the homebrewer's craft.

A hop growing primer:
Hops Growing Primer

This is what you'll be getting in the mail - 3 of these guys:

Seattle area, eh? That's where the Cascade hop is native to. I'll be sending them home.

We weren't ever able to grow ours in our super sandy soil. I dunno how our friends faired with theirs though.

They made it to the top of the fence and got a little spread out (The best one did anyway.) It's only a 4' chain link fence, but not bad for burying a dead ass looking twig in the ground last spring.

That's about right for the first year. This year you should expect the best vines to grow to 30 or 40 feet long and have plenty of hop cones in the fall. By the third season you be trying to thin them out because they'll be so thick.

Everyone should have their hops by now and hopefully planted in the ground and ready to burst forth.

Let me know if you want some planting or growing advice.

Got mine a couple of days ago. I think my mom is starting them in the house since our soil sucks.
