Well me and the kiddo just came back from watching the new G.I. Joe...Rise of Cobra
the movie itself is very fun and entertaining, the special effects a seriously top notch, but if your a big fan of the cartoon series from the 80's.....the movie story line deviates quite a bit! From personal experience the movie seems to be based more on Larry Hama's G.I. Joe Comics than the cartoon TV series...
Bad guys this time around were Destro, Dr. Mindbender, the Baroness, Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow, and Zartan
Good Guys included Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Duke, Rip Cord (Which is black in the movie, white in the TV series), Breaker, General Hawk, Heavy Duty, Cover Girl and a Cameo of Seargent Stone
I would have liked to have seen a few other characters, but I'm sure there will be a few more of these made...
basically it is an adult's interpretation of a beloved childhood cartoon, and if you're willing to give it a shot and take yourself back to 1984, you will find yourself entertained enough to give it a, "Yo, Joe!" a phrase they manged to work into the film as well as "Real American Hero!" much to my chagrin...
I would rate it a 3 out of 5
I have seen much worse!
It was directed by Stephen Sommers of the Mummy movies fame....but then again he directed Van Helsing as well
he did mange to recycle Arnold Vosloo and Brendan Fraser
just about every scene is full tilt overdrive....not much character development though the plot is decent
budget was a whopping $170,000,000.00 was released on the 5th world wide it has managed to make back about 97,000,000.00 in 7 days....
If your a Fan go see it, or see it for Sienna Miller (Baroness) or Rachel Nichols (Scarlett)
I flashed back to 1984 for about 118 minutes anyway....

Peace,
Greg | You're not missing anything. I thought it was a really, really pathetic movie- and I'm a big fan of comic/superhero movies. This one was right up there with the Dolf Lundgren Masters of the Universe from the 80s.

Ok going to show my nerdy side here
You can't compare the movie to the cartoon, when it was adapted from the mini comics that came with the first run of toys (keep in mind the toys came out in 1981 and the movie wasn't released until 1987!), which depicted He-Man as a wandering barbarian (no Prince Adam or Orko). Ed Pressman was interested in the property before the cartoon was even aired and Filmation (who re-wrote the original story line to sell more toys for their cartoon series).....had no involvement whatsoever in the film!.....and beleive it or not their was a sequel written, but because Cannon Films was so short on funds they couldn't afford to pay Mattel Toys the liscense fee, so after a re-write the sequel tuned into the movie Cyborg....(as in Jean Claude)

It has to do, I think, with the fact that one time we watched some weird movie from the '80s when we were operating at a different level and got confused about what it was that we actually watched...

They do say "knowing is half the battle" which was something I was looking for. I wish it was rated R so they could have incorporated the redubbed clips into it... |

I liked Nick Fury better, anyway.

I'll have to drink a big cup of coffee before I take my 14-year-old son to see this. I just barely made it through Transformers 2. And I love action movies, past, present, and future! With all the CGI and technology, how is it even possible to make a movie that would put me to sleep? |

It was supposed to be a fun action ride rather than an epic thematic exploration of good and evil. If you were expecting that, go watch Watchmen again.
all in all, considering that it's a fun action film, I thought it was actually quite good. They kept the cheesiness to a relative minimum, and had some really cool fight scenes and one-liners. The twist at the end really caught me by surprise, I dunno if it had been covered in any old series', but I haven't seen any of em so it was new to me.
basically, if you're looking for a light-hearted guns-blazin' rampage [kinda like transformers], you'll like this one.
*disclaimer: I'm not actually rating this on par with Transformers, IMO transformers, both 1 & 2, SUCKED massive ostrich eggs. GI Joe was alot better IMO.
