Going to Basel next year!

Today, I found out that I was selected for my school's exchange program, and we will be going to Basel, Switzerland next spring. With that said, I wondered if there were any Swiss here that could tell me some things to know about Basel or Switzerland in general. If anyone could recommend any books on Basel or Switzerland, that would be great too. Thanks!

In all honesty, I suggest signing up at www.couchsurfing.com, join a swiss group and one for basel if they have one (search groups).

I did this and couch surfed a bit when I first got to Calgary and I know more about the city and places to go than all my friends who have lived here their whole lives.

Wickedpissah, I hate you. I've wanted to go to Switzerland for all of my [now over] high school career.

You had BETTER post video documentaries here, or I WILL be sending letter bombs.

I really dug Switzerland. I didn't really know what to expect (unlike Italy, Germany, Belgium etc where I had some idea of what things would be like) but I ended up having a great time. On that trip the three cities we saw were Lucerne, Wengen and Zurich and the countryside in between. I absolutely advise seeing the Jungfrau at some point while you are there. It is amazing.

I went to Basel last year (and will again this year) for work but traveling on business is very different from vacationing. Last year it rained the entire time, not to mention I was busy all day and so I didn't get a chance to really see the city. Hopefully this year will be a little better experience and I'll have some info to share.

Basel is about 1.5 hours from Zurich. All the good concerts are in Basel and Zurich. Geneva, where I am, is about three hours away. Basel is just down the road from Strasbourg.

Buy an annual rail pass and see the country. It's really beautiful.
