If you can get off the beaten path then deals can be had but you may not have enough time while in port. Good luck though!!!

If you are going off the beaten path, know some spanish or have someone with you that does. Sound be able to find one for around 500 pesos. I should pick one up next time I am in Mexico.

EDIT: I was shopping them awhile ago. I found some pretty good ones in Santa Ana for 700 - 1000 bucks. In Mexico they were about 650 - 1500 bucks. Craftsmanship is key. You'll pay for it wherever you are. |

They're a little bit off the beaten path in downtown Cozumel, but they have a wide selection of hand crafted traditional Mexican instruments for a reasonable price. I got a handmade guitar for around $60. Heres their website: http://www.islacozumel.net/services/pax/
Talk to Alejandro. He's just about the coolest person ever and a master Mason to boot. If you get the chance, say Mike and Joel from Acacia Missouri chapter send their greetings.

I played one once for a few minutes. This tiny little Mexican lady attempted to show me how, as I recall, it involves plucking octaves with your thumb and forefinger. At least that's how she did it. I didn't do so well, and I play double bass for a living. Not sure how that little girl got that much sound out of it. She just walked away, laughing. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
