absolutely.
it was great to hear the tunes played live again. dancing in that scene again felt like old times. all in all, it was a happy, fun experience. and i gotta say, i only saw the dead in large venues back in the day. this was a 2600 seat theater. so, much more intimate, which felt great too.
that's the positive. to get picky, here are a few thoughts...
bobby seems attached to his over-the-top beard and mustache which is pretty funny. he sang 'black peter' and that was a little weird. its odd to hear other people singing jerry songs. they've got iowa's own john kadlecik as their not-jerry. he does a great job and it allows them to cover more jerry songs. i was watching him, though, and thinking that from dso to furthur he is gonna have a hard time breaking out of this not-jerry role. i was listening for his "voice" to come through in the jamming. i think it did in the second set during the open jams. he's a great player so i'd like to hear him step into his own, y'know?
they had two back up singers and only one drummer. mostly, i would have liked it the other way around. but they closed with a very extended 'and we bid you good night' which was deadly intense with all those voices. i'd like to have billy or mickey in there.
overall, it was a blast. just hearing those sounds and digging the scene was a great trip. i guess its as much fun as you wanna have.
