Going to Drive Cross Country at the end of the month!

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got the word that I can ship my car to the mainland this month! (I had to get approval from the lien holder on my car).

Firstly, I'd like to thank all the TBers that bought some of my music gear these past few weeks! It was with your help that I could afford to ship my car and move back to the mainland to look for work. MAHALO!!!

I'm going to travel with my nephew from Seattle, WA to Massachusetts. He's going to help drive. He'll get to meet all his relatives from back east. I'll post a Google map of my travel route soon. If any TBers know of points of interest along the route please let me know.

BTW: We might not take the most direct route. We might go south to Sacramento, then east to Nevada, then South to Las Vegas, and finally head northeast to Massachusetts. I was stationed at Nellis, AFB for a couple of years and haven't been back that way for many years.

I'll update this thread periodically.

Mike

Once you clear the Rockies, just keep driving until you cross the Appalachians. I'd spend any diversions out west.

Yep, because as soon as you're east of Vegas your on that vast expanse of nothing known as the East Coast.

Thanks!

Any "good eats" places or other points of interest you know of in these places?

Of course we will get as many pics of the Grand Canyon as possible.

I am stopping at Gibson in Memphis and Nashville. I have to find the Jack Daniels plant too.

We will also stop by the WTC Ground Zero.

On the 11th or 12th of Oct, we'll probably stop by the Topsfield Fair.

Mike

The Grand Canyon truly lives up to its name. We also spent a day in Sedona which is worth a visit. I enjoyed the Walnut Canyon National Monument which is not far from Flagstaff.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as "bad eats" in Memphis. I went to BB King's place and had the best ribs I ever had and I understand that there are a couple places in town that are even better!

I also enjoyed the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green Kentucky.

When you are in Little Rock, be sure to go to Hot Springs and do the whole bath/massage routine. Hot Springs is like a throwback to the Roaring Twenties - I was there maybe 20 years ago and it may have changed, but it had this once-elegant-but-now-a-bit-worn-down vibe that I loved. That is about the half-way point in your trip and you'll be ready for some relaxing.

If you are anywhere near Gettysburg - I recommend visiting the battlefield.

I'll definitely do that. We are staying in Harpers Ferry, the site of another major Civil War Battlefield. They also have a Civil War museum and preserved area there.

Thanks for the info!

BTW: We are looking for a reasonable "month-to-month" apartment to start with. I'm in contact with some places, but if you know of any resources please point them out.

Thanks!

Mike
