Question Going to New York for "Thanksgiving" - any good bass shops?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, my Mrs won 60,000 British Airways points and we're going to New York for Thanksgiving to visit her Irish "clan"
I suspect she may do some shopping for "crap" (i.e. clothes, shoes, that sort of rubbish) so I might take the opportunity to check out some music shops, try out some basses and maybe make a purchase if the pound is still knackered!
Can anybody recommend some good music shops? Is there a bass-specific shop in New York? (We'll be staying in Times Square)

Cheers!

PS what can I expect from my 1st Thanksgiving??? What kind of things go on and is it true that it's bigger than Christmas in America?
PSPS I'm English btw.

If you're in Times Square, your best bet is to check out the stores on 48th street, between 6th and 7th. Rudys has the best bass collection of the stores there. It's only a few blocks up from Times Square, you can walk there no problem.

Guitar Center on 14th between 5th and 6th has a pretty good bass section, but has a really good vintage instrument section, including more than a few vintage basses. You may not want to walk that far, you're probably better off taking a subway.

I suppose Thanksgiving is bigger than Christmas, in the sense that more people celebrate it, but not much goes on. There's a parade, people eat themselves stupid on Turkey, and there's some sales. That's about it.

Cheers TrooperFarva! Thanks for the info... Rudy's sounds like a winner, I'll be sure to go there.

PS Super Troopers = my favourite film!

Oooooooh, I looked at their website and they have a Jaguar bass, hope they have one in stock when I go because it will be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying one in ol' Blighty!

Take the subway down to Jay street and check out Sadowsky in Brooklyn. I'm kicking myself for not doing this last time I was there.
