Going out for lunch.....1923 style

Sign in to disble this ad
Every Friday my department goes out for lunch. Today one of my employees drove his 1923 Willy's Knight in to work, so we went out in that. Sweet!

It's powered by a 3.0L sleeved 4 cylinder (no camshafts) and a 3 speed non-synchronized manual transmission. The black cone looking thing in the engine compartment is the horn. And yes, it really does go "aaaa-ooooooo-gaaa"

Peace,

James

Nice horn, and what a beautiful ride! And, lots of elbow room under the hood to work!

Awesome. I love older cars like that. Sort of puts things in perspective how far we've come along in terms of automobiles - but hey, I still think those look really cool.

I would love to see a modern remake of those type of cars.

A Ford Model T/Mustang combo would be pretty awesome.

Whoa! Sleeve-valves of the Knight persuasion

Is that motor really as quiet as they advertised?

It starts with a key and it has a really bizarre protractor type set-up on the steering wheel that adjusts the spark when you start it. I should have snapped a picture of that. You almost have to behave like a mad scientist to start the thing. Turn on the ignition, prime the gas, adjust the spark. Repeat until it all works.

I was amazed at how quiet it was. It shook a bit. But then again, it's 87 years old and doesn't have balance shafts. And the engine is attached directly to the frame.

wow and I thought having to wiggle my ignition key to get it toengage so I could turn the engine over was a pain.

I saw this Cadillac at the museum that way about the size of a stretch hummer. V-16 engine, 8 seater, sedan! It was so sick. Cars back in the 30s the stuff were ****ing huge.

Sweet ride, but I wouldn't want to ride in one during your typical New England winter!

Actually according to our legal system, they are "grandfathered in" so to speak, and don't have to pass tests that didn't exist before they were made. Or at least that's how it is here.

I think you can get exemptions for them too, like if its a show car or the like.
