Going to Toronto in August!

Sign in to disble this ad
It seems I will be in Toronto Aug. 13-18 for business and some pleasure. This will be my first time visiting Canada. I will be attending the AMC Conference for Association Management Companies. Last year I was supposed to attend this same conference in San Diego, but I was side tracked when a 17 girl took me out on my motorcycle so I am hoping I will actually make it this year.

My wife and I will be staying in the Fairmont Royal York hotel. During our free time, what is within walking distance for us to see and where are some good restaurants?

You'll be in core downtown, so for music, I would suggest you check out The Rex. That place features some of the most insanely talented Jazz musicians out there - all variants of jazz too, so there will be something to suit your tastes. In terms of restaurants, What do you like? One the Canada's best Thai chefs has a place in a tucked away corner that will blow your mind. Give me a little more to go on and I can tell you more.

Thai is good! I like Sushi, but my wife doesn't so a place that serves sushi and something else would be good. I like just about anything, Italian, Mediterranean, Asian, Indian, a good Steak and I like to try different non-mainstream dishes.

I had to trade the idea of a new bike for a Roscoe so it doesn't seem like I will be riding one anytime soon. I checked out Club Bass, they are only 11 minutes from the hotel so I will have to stop by and visit.

Definitely check out Mengrai Thai: http://www.mengraithai.com/1.html

It is truly, truly, the most astounding Thai food you will ever eat. Take out is cheap. Dining in is pricier, but the place is pure class - menu is much more extensive, gourmet to the extreme. The place gets nothing but good reviews.

There's many, many things to do down there. You could do the tourist thing and go up the CN Tower, take a walk up Yonge St. to Bloor St., take another walk down Queen St. W., walk through Chinatown (Spadina St., from Queen to Bloor), Kensington Market (just W of Spadina near Chinatown)...

Lots things to see and do.

Don't forget to add Church St. to that list. Just do it in the day light, lots of great little cafes and restaurants.

Clint,

Not sure what my schedule will be but would be cool to come down to TO and meet up at a place like the Rex. http://www.therex.ca/ Another good spot for jazz would be Trane Studio http://www.tranestudio.com/

You are really close to the Skydome, or whatever it's called these days. You could catch a Blue jays game if you like baseball. Also close to ACC. Might be a concert coming that you could take in. http://www.theaircanadacentre.com/

Lots of great suggestions from others already. I assume your USD will still be strong so that makes it even better.

Steve

Getting closer to the time, Aug 13.

Does anyone want to trade me a Toronto Starbuck's coffee mug for a Raleigh, NC coffee mug?

If you have any questions while you are here, ask away and we'll help with whatever we can.

By the way, the weather forcast for the next 4 days is about 29 Celcius (84 farenheit).

Thank Crispy!

We are staying at the Fairmont on Front street. We walked downtown, there are a lot of nice restaurants. I walked by this Indian restaurant, it smelled so good. I found where Starbuck's is located, hopefully I can get my Toronto mug.

I had an Alexander Keiths on tap last night, good beer.

If you want to try out some amazing local brews (and if you're a pub kind of guy), check out C'est What on Front st, east of the fairmont. It's an awesome basement pub that only serves up microbrews. If you're a pub+beer man, it's the place to go.

I will have to stop there and check it out.

I went to the Elephant Castle for Fish & Chips and a few Keith's Amber pints.

*taking notes* We're going to be heading up to Toronto probably in mid-September for a little break. Sounds great. Any local TB'ers want to meet up, show us around a bit and have a pint or six?

Came out of my hotel to catch the shuttle to the airport and ran into Randy Bachman, literally. Really nice guy.
