Good bass-related gift for under £10?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys

I was wondering if you could please recommend me a good gift for under £10 that I can give to my little cousin for Christmas?

He's in a rock band playing bass so I figured some slinky strings would be a good idea, but the cheapest I can find those for is close to £20. I was thinking like some cool looking plectrums, but I don't know if that's kinda lame.

Guitar tab books seem to be either specific to one band and I have no idea who his favourite band are, or like 'classic rock' tracks when he plays some of the heavier newer stuff.

I'm a loss! Any recommendations would be very welcome, thanks.

how about some books on theory? now that i am at university, it is an area i wish i would have paid more attention to in the early stages of bassdom.

It's over the £10 mark, but it's a hefty tomb!

Bass Tab White Pages:
Bass Tab White Pages: Amazon.co.uk: Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation: Books

(You may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.)

Bass Guitar For Dummies (if he has a sense of humour):
Bass Guitar Basics For Dummies For Dummies Lifestyles Paperback: Amazon.co.uk: Patrick Pfeiffer: Books

Bass Guitar Fretboard Roadmap:
Bass Guitar (Fretboard Roadmaps): Amazon.co.uk: Fred Sokolow, Tim Emmons: Books

Simplified Sight Reading:

Bass Guitar Handbook:
The Bass Handbook: A Complete Guide for Mastering the Bass Guitar: Amazon.co.uk: Adrian Ashton: Books

Ok, so most of them are a bit over the £10 mark, but they are pretty good.

For under a tenner, you *might* be able to pick up a tuner, but I guess he's already have one. Even a semi-decent lead is going to be just over the £10 mark these days

You could possibly get a stand for under £10, but it probably wouldn't be up to much.

Don't think I've ever seen bass lessons for that much, they'd generally be over £20 per hour (quite often over £20 for half an hour!).

Planet Waves Pro Bass String Winder/Cutter or a Snark Chromatic Clip-On Tuner, both under £10, both work v.well. The Snark would obviously get more use.

Huge thanks for the suggestions guys! Lost of things to think about and consider here, in particular the bass guitar white pages look fantastic but that may be something I recommend my parents/nan to get as it is more expensive (problem with the cost is if I spent that much, I'd need to spend the extra on all of my cousins!).

I think with regards to a stand and also lessons they're great ideas, but he wants for nothing so to speak, so I'd be pretty certain he already has those things covered. Something quirky is good and I think one of these books will be perfect
