Good-looking folks are smarter?

Sign in to disble this ad
On my way to practice last night, I heard a report on the radio. A study had been done, and the conclusion was that good looking people are up to 15 IQ points smarter than average. They said it had to do with self-confidence.

A few minutes later I pulled in to the Burger King for some pre-practice dining. At the first window a gorgeous young lady handed me the wrong change and the wrong receipt. I alerted her to the mishap and she corrected it. Then at the second window, another beautiful young lady handed me the wrong meal and a drink I had not ordered.

Meh. I don't think I believe this study.

Same here. Is it a coincidence that my IQ is 20 points higher than average and I rank a 30 on the common 1-10 scale of looks? I think not.

I fear it is not a systematic association, for I am beautiful.

Do you employ the secretary with the qualifications? Or the dippy looker you fancy the pants off, this is the question! : )

MEH,, a little bit of truth, but not the status que. There are a lot of ladies in Hollywood that are stunning, but I doubt can tie their shoes without reciting a rhyme LOL!!

I think it has to do more with access to education. Most attractive, healthy people live in nicer areas with better schools etc... But of course there are exceptions.

Yeah, really. But in support of the study, most of them around these parts don't appear to be very attractive OR too bright. Sorry, that sounds a bit harsh. Let's just say that you probably won't spot them toting potato salad to the Mensa picnic...

Could be less that more attractive people become smarter, and more that smart people become more attractive. They know how to look after themselves, eat right, excersize right, dress right... Fashion is a complicated thing, I wouldn't expect anyone to understand it lol.

As a physicist, a few names come into mind..

Stephen Hawking
Erwin Schrödinger
Paul Dirac
Albert Einstein

Not exactly some of the best looking members of the human race.. but definitely some of the most intelligent.

... or did this 'good looks = good IQ' theory just apply to women?... women who don't work at burger king?

Just wondering, was this study based on a sample of Jerry Springer applicants?

I used to work at a BK back in the day. We actually did have a good number of hotties under our employ during my 2 years, however, not a single one had an IQ higher than that of a rock.

Define good looking.

I'd say that it may be smarter people being more interested in taking care of themselves, but, well, working in a Physics department, not really entirely true :P
