Good place to purchase jewelry?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've never really considered what places were good and not good for purchasing jewelry. And I was wondering if anyone here had any opinions on good places to purchase jewelry. Specifically, I'm thinking of getting a bracelet for my girlfriend for our upcoming anniversary. If I could get it engraved, that would be a plus.

Hopefully someone can help me out.

I get jewelry for my wife at Macy's normally. The gumball machines outside K-Mart and WalMart are also good sources when you're in a pinch.

Well, at least some of the advice was good, lulz.

Maybe I should buy Cracker Jack boxes? But I have no idea what kinds of prizes you get with those these days.

lol, i'd definetly check out overstock, and also, i'd do some research on picking diamonds and buy a loupe with a diamond tester before going to a pawn shop...

I'll check overstock, but does anyone have anything to say about chains found locally? You know, those stores found in malls and whatnot.

A shady looking guy wearing a trench coat on the streets of New York is a good start for some high quality jewelry at low prices...

....though sometimes the guy isn't carrying any merchandise in the trench coat...

If you are looking for diamonds .... research and a loupe is a good thing to have even when going to mall jewelry stores as well. Mall jewelry store chains will have lower quality diamond bracelets than you'd expect.

A pawn shop (with a good jewelry selection) is a great place to shop .... you can usually talk down the price a bit too. Just don't tell her where you got it .... no matter how beautiful it is ... it'll bum her out a bit to know it's a Pawn Shop find.

I wasn't necessarily going to get diamonds. My girlfriend is pretty big on stuff that would have an engraved message or something. She likes stuff that she feels has more meaning, rather than diamonds. But I won't rule them out.

Anyway, there isn't any store, online or otherwise that someone can recommend? I'm curious as to why people get their significant other's jewelry at "(insert store here)."

Does your town have a reputable, local jeweler? I got my wife's engagement ring and our wedding rings from a guy in town. I found I had more personable service and because I worked with his wife at the time I got a discount. That didn't hurt either

I'll check local dealers. I'd honestly never really considered that. The parts of my town that I'm always at are the types of places that all jewelry ends up at pawn shops one way or another, so I wondered about reputability. But I'll check other local places too. Thanks.

I watched Rachel Ray's talkshow today. And apparently, you can get a decent deal on jewelry at costco.

But I'm just an 18 year old with no jewelry buying experience from a country with no Costco.
