One point for the pro-gun people.... California man shoots his way out of sinking SUV.
One point for the anti-cell phone people.

The only way they could've made that story better is if they were driving this:

Yep, THAT'S the guy I want to be carrying a gun. Calm, cool, collected, definitely in command at all times. But he does get points for remembering that he had a firearm and that it could take the glass out quickly. I'll bet he couldn't hear anything for an hour after discharging a firearm inside a car - which is a small price to pay in this circumstance.
How deep is a "creek"? Where I come from, those are usually fairly shallow. It would be hilarious if he shot his way out when the car was standing upright in two feet of water. OTOH, if it was on its roof in two feet of water, definitely time to get out.
BTW - yes, I have a concealed weapons permit. No, I don't normally carry a firearm in the car or on my person - too inconvenient, too much additional responsibility, too easy for things to go wrong instead of right. I have 8 years of law enforcement experience to back up this judgment.
PS: as far as "Bright R'Us"...remember the story about two years ago concerning the idiot who turned his car left into a lake because his GPS told him to turn there? Maybe he's a relative.....
