well, had to put my 14 year old cat to sleep today. he had been having serious gastro-intestinal issues for a while, and to be honest it was a little overdue.
of all the cats that i have owned, he was the most rebellious and independent by a mile. i remember one time he jumped up on our bed next to my wife and nestled against her, purred a bit, then stood up and peed on her arm, and then jumped down to the floor. no particular reason for this was apparent, but with charlie one wasn't needed. that's just the way he rolled. . probably just laying claim to my woman - he liked to challenge me every chance he got.
and, as if to complete his streak of rebellion, while he lay on my lap today, slowly losing consciousness, he was farting up a seriously nasty storm. had to wash my pants. rock on little man.
his whole life, the little dude was a righteous rebel, and i sure am gonna miss him .
he gained some measure of fame for his role in this picture (he's the black/fretless cat in the foreground) :

Two years ago I had to have my cat put down as well. She was with me for around the same amount of time as Charlie. She was starting to become incontinent and what was worse, every time she peed, she'd flop on the floor and go into some kind of epileptic fit for around 10 seconds. Was really sad to see a loved one go through that so I finally made the incredibly tough decision to put her down. I miss her a lot.
With pets that are getting to that stage of life, suffering and needing to be put down, you need to ask yourself; What's more important, to keep him/her around because I will miss them or to put an end to their suffering? You made a tough choice and will have fond memories of Charlie to help you through this tough time. I feel for ya bud.

I had to put down a cat before his time was up; feline idiopathic cystitis. Not fun. I definitely miss him at times. We've got three others to fill the void.

You need to give Charlie a proper pagan funeral by sitting him on one of your basses and burning it as it floats away downstream...
