Got back into cycling big time this summer- and lost 30lb!

I managed to actually find time inbetween uni stuff and band time to actually spend some time on my bike. New pedals, new saddle, new helmet (yes, I decided to wear one!).

Result? In two months I've lost 30lb, and I can now run a good mile without stopping.

I'm hoping that if I can get back to my peak fitness I can run for uni cycling team.

I'm happy anyway...

Congrats. I started cycling at the beginning of this year primarily to get in shape and lose weight. I haven't actually lost very much, but I'm definitely in much better cardiovascular shape.

About how many miles are you putting in a week, and where?

Congrats Fassa. And a helmet is a sensible choice, especially considering newer ones cool your head more than no helmet at all.

There's road and MTB, get your butt out on the trails!

Have to wear a brain bucket there, trees whizzing by at 30-40mph.....

You are more likely to die, get nailed on road cycling though.
Faster, less protective gear, cars.......other people etc.

Spend 15-20 hours a week in the saddle, you'll get thin.
But whatever amount of time is better than none.

I started to see more of nature and trails I liked to run.
I do running one day, Cycling the next.
Mix MTB with Road.
Makes the works interesting.

Then you are all mellow and can play well
No more Bass Belly

Regards,
Tom Barr

Yep, I went to a big racing specialist and got properly kitted out and measured.

And yes, that is 2st 2lb.

Owch...joining the gym should fix that though. Couldn't you play in a weekend team?

I know- I'm torn between a new bass and a new bike.

Congrats! I have a similar story from 4 years ago: made the switch from "casual utility cyclist" to "serious recreational cyclist" and lost 20lbs. Unfortunately I suspect this sort of thing only happens once...despite the fact that I keep riding harder, longer, and faster each year, I'm not losing any more weight (!), but it's been trivial to maintain that initial 20lb lost so I'm not complaining.
