Well, it happened today. The company has a real classy way to handle it. They wait until about 3:00 PM, call you up to an HR flunky's office, she hands you the packet, has you sign the release, then they take your company credit card, security badge, etc.
THEN they escort you back down to your office - you're escorted from that point until you get out the door - and give you boxes to pack all your **** with. They watch while you do that.
While you're packing up, you hear "bee-deep!" from your computer, it logs off and you are locked out of the system, no time even to retrieve any personal data if there was any.
Then, "sayonara, kemosabe."
Like I said, really classy.
They gave me a few weeks' severance, and prorated all my vacation time for the year, and paid that to me, too. So that's okay, I guess.
Now, gotta hit the pavement and look for another job.

Meantime, here's a little thing I've been working on, the title of which appears at the top of this thread:
duh-DUH-duh-duh-duh...
"Called me in to the HR office"
duh-DUH-duh-duh-duh...
"Give me the paper to sign"
duh-DUH-duh-duh-duh...
"Swore they'd send me my last paycheck"
duh-DUH-duh-duh-duh...
"Direct Deposit was fine -
"Cuz they don' need me no mo'
"Got no work comin' in the do'
"I'm laid off, laid off till they need me agin'...."
(With apologies to the gentlemen of color whose names all started
with "Blind," "Muddy," "Catfish," or "Big Bill.")

Anyway, I'm sure it'll all work out.

Edit: I mean to say, I just don't hear the layoff stories from canadians that I do from americans. And apparently the job hunt in the states right now is viscious.

I'm using the time to get the baby room (my old jam room ) ready for the kid. And I'm learning Spanish! That should help me in the electrical cunstruction industry (sadly enough). All in all, these are exciting times for the Two Fingers family!!!!!!! The baby (a girl) kicks like crazy when she hears her daddy's voice! I'm a proud papa and she isn't even born yet!
As for you....GOOD LUCK and GOD SPEED!
