As all you cyclists know people just dont look out for us on the road. I was cruising at my normal pace about 16mph and some idiot just pulls out right in front of me. I literally had 2 secs to react so I just slammed my brakes, I have disc brakes that grab really good and it basically sent me flying thru the air and I came down pretty hard on my shoulder..
The driver just took off, I was so worried about getting my bike out of the street the thought of grabbing his license plate didnt even cross my mind, a lady who seen it tryed to get it but he left to fast. She was very nice and offered me a ride home since my bike was sorta screwed, I took her up but instead of home I went to the bike shop a mile or so up the road and bought some parts to put old betsy back together for the rest of the ride.
Broke a bar end, cracked my brand new riser bar, and scuffed up my brake lever..
Now me, haha I got some serious road rash on my shoulder and elbow, misc cuts and scratches on my legs, and overall bad mood LOL..
Why in this day and age people cant seem to pay attention on the road is beyond me. And why if you were at fault would you at least not stop to see if the person is ok, im not sue happy but I wish I had his plates. People like that need to be shown a lesson.
Be careful cyclists, no one is watching for us.

When biking alone on some pretty empty highways, I've been a friggin' target to rednecks. I've even debated wearing a Husker jersey to hope they have mercy on me. A Husker jersey!!!!!!!
In the city, we have too many nimrod soccer moms talkin' on cell phones while driving the largest SUV they can afford.....
Perhaps some day I can find a job I enjoy that's closer to home. |

I had the same thing (sort of) happen to me many years ago when a girl pulling out of an alley cut right in front of me sending me flying over the hood of her car.
I got up - she didn't split - I was OK (did a pretty spectacular flip and landed on my backpack and was spared any injury).
She was freakin' out and I was doing my best to make her feel better - ironic, huh? I told her I was OK and had no interest in causing her any problems insurance-wise. I asked her for her contact info and told her the only thing I asked was she pay half for my repairs that consisted of a bent rim and a scuffed seat.
As freaked out as she was, she had the presence of mind to give me a fake number and name and I was so wrapped up in being magnanimous, it never occurred to me to grab the license plate number.
I will never make that mistake again! Karma will do it's thing for her and the person who hit you, but that's the last time I give anyone the benefit of the doubt.

Seriously, I do trials, and I once saved myself from a frontal collision by hopping on the hood of a car that was gonna hit me. Scared the **** out of the driver, too. |

Both times, the driver took off! The second time, I ended up taking an ambulance ride to the emergency room with a concusion and lots of bleeding from the head.

Had I jumped the car I wouldn't just be still alive, I'd be a superhero |

Be careful cyclists, no one is watching for us. | Glad you're ok, but since there was no actual collision, I'm not seeing how you would have any grounds to sue on, if you did have his license plate. It's your word against his, and as was stated, there was no actual collision.
