Got it trouble with the lady....

I got yelled at quite a bit today because of my choice to not shave for at least a month and she took the opportunity to pull out all of the crap and screw ups that she's been holding in for the last few months.

Background:

I've been pretty short on cash lately and this has resulted in my not taking her out to dinner or anything more than going for a walk or going to high school football games. This has been happening for a couple months since i have no job and my bass has been needing work due to gigging wear and tear, and my spare cash has to go to that since gigs are where all of my money is coming from. And since we've been gigging a lot more lately and I'm in a pit orchestra for the school play, I am shorter on time than I am on cash.

What set off the yelling today was my decision to not shave my face for a while. My acne prescription is running out and my acne (i have it really bad) tends to go way down if I don't shave for a week or more. So I'm seeing if not shaving for an extended period of time will do anything to knock it down to almost nothing and keep it there. Hate doesn't even come close to her opinion on facial hair, so this is not going over lightly.

So here's why I'm coming to the TB community about this problem: We both have a free day Saturday and I actually have $40 to spare. Any ideas for a nice, fun date night on the cheap? Spaghetti factory is one of her favorite places to eat and since neither of us drink pop, $20 covers the meal. And it appears that the weather will be nice that day, so hiking will probably be on th agenda.

So what I have so far is:
-spaghetti factory dinner
-hiking

-total so far= $20

Can you guys/gals help a brother out on planning a good date day that is way over due?

We're in Oregon city (near Portland OR) and are both 17.

I don't think it's the 'not spending money on her' that's making her upset. Maybe she just craves some attention? There is lots of things to do to make her feel special without spending a dime. If she literally says 'money', then she's no good.

Also, I personally dislike facial hair because it really really hurts when going in for a kiss or being kissed. Maybe you have ultra thick facial hair? I don't have a problem with softer hair.

You need a cougar! Someone who appreciates your supple young flesh and doesn't require a pedestal. Without all that stress, your acne might clear up a bit.

This could perhaps be the worst advice I've ever seen in TBOT...

Stiletto - If you really love her and want to impress, take the time to do something for her that comes from YOU, Make her a mix CD of her favorite songs, or write her a nice card just because. These are the things that keep relationships going for the long run, not what your wallet can do.

Of course take her out, but you have to spend time showing her you care with personalized action as well, and not just money.

I had a girlfriend who used to complain all the time, no matter what. It is a coping mechanism that some women develop in a misguided effort to gain and keep attention. She might have some valid points if you are neglecting your relationship, but there is something specifically pathological going on when women nag their men about growing out their beards. Growing out a beard is a man's prerogative and any woman who tries to nag you into shaving is really just playing a psychological game. Taking away the beard is a substitute for taking away the balls. My advice would be to keep an eye out for a lady who appreciates your facial hair. Odds are, she will also dig your bass.

What's more, as stated- the OP is growing the face fuzz for a specific, medical/economic reason! If the other half can't get on board w/making do w/what you two have- particularly in these times, it might be time to KHTTC.

My wife actually does not care for flowers- in our opinion, an overpriced gesture that fades quickly(mind you, if it works, go- RUN w/it ). She definitely digs vintage jewelry, though- as long as it's not too ostentatious.

Alright if anyone here can talk about facial hair its ME!!

1st the beard should help with the acne!

2nd I have been with my wife since we were 16! And i will tell you young love can last! BUT if you two cant grow together and be understading about each other than you have a long road ahead! If bass is this important to you she needs to undestand that. And maybe you need to explain it to her. If a young couple cant get over low funds and short time together while still being kids living at home. Then they will never make it in the real world! Multiple jobs, rent, stress, low funds!!

3rd GO FOR THE BEARD! think of it like this if you grow it out and you dont like it you can cut it. But if you never grow it out you will always wonder what it would have been like! And really let it go not just peach fuzz! get a inchor two and see how you like it.

My face-fuzz is kinda thick and prickly... But I'm sticking by my choice to grow out the beard! And Saturday is looking like flowers, dinner and if I can find the inspiration to write a song for her I'll do something with my guitar (what other good do those things do besides making good weapons for killing zombies?)

If the weather does turn out good I'll take her hiking somewhere near the river. BTW we're both Christian and go to the same church, so banging the crap outta her is out of the question:/.

And she's not requesting I spend money on her. She's just mad that I don't have any time to spend with her because of my being involved in so much music stuff and when I do have spare time, i'm too tired and poor to do anything but sit on the couch. And if we want any alone time we have to go somewhere and thats not only gas money, but food money for both of us too. She is broke as well, so yeah, not much can happen haha.

She was making valid points with everything she yelled at me for, so I'm not gonna be pissed back at her because I really do need to make more time to spend with her and my family has seen very little of me lately too. I'll have to explain the beard thing in more depth when i see her tomorrow, I didn't get much of a chance in the 10 minutes I was around her today that was filled by her yelling at me.
