I can't say that 1/2 of the stuff that is nominated in my favorite catagories is stuff that I'd own...seems more like a popularity contest that you'd see on E! Magazine to me...

And how many more times are they gonna showboat a classic artist just for the sake of a bull**** lifetime acheivement award segment? They trotted out Stevie Wonder a year or so ago, didn't really even let him talk, and I'm almost shocked they didn't make him play "I just called to say I love you"... then again he was showboated for a medley segment. He's not a trophy to shine lights on backing up lesser artists, he is a musical genius you dolts.
I agree about the sentiments that they get artists and categories mixed up, rely to much on idiot panel vote for nominees (why else did Jethro Tull win best metal category a few years back?) and are otherwise irrellevant to anyone who actually enjoys music. They never dig deep for anything pertinent. Oh, Beyonce put out a record? Cool. Nominate her for best female vocal, best album, best artist, best video and best person currently blowing Jay-Z.
Bloated, trite, insipid, boring, unecessary.

| | | | There's almost nothing I would ever listen to there. However, with Ozzy, Tool and Queens of the Stone Age all nominated for one award there's a chance someone I like might win something. |

Part of it is simply that what constitutes good music is far more subjective even than deciding what great acting is. But the larger problem is that unlike those other awards where lesser known/watched TV shows or movies are often rewarded for good performances, the Grammys seem to be almost solely driven by album sales. At least in the major categories. Quote:
