Great Old B&W Horror Movies

Today I've started the day with the brilliant Basil Rathbone, starring in "Son of Frankenstein". I love the part where the monster runs amok and kidnaps the adorable young son, while the very nervous Doctor is playing darts with the Police Inspector with the mechanical arm. Man, I love this time of year, when they run these classics!
It's now finished up, with the monster taking the plunge into the handily-located pit of 800 degree liquid sulfur. Gone for good this time... or is he??
Next up, "House of Frankenstein", starring my most favorite of all the old horror masters, Boris Karloff, as Dr. Niemann from Transylvania. Also the great Lon Chaney (Wolfman), John Carradine (Dracula), and Lionel Atwill. I can see I'm not gonna get the housework done this morning!

Look out, Karloff just pulled the stake out from the heart of Dracula's skeleton!! He's taking fleshy form again!! Gotta go...

As a kid I loved all the old black and white monster movies of the past, with 'The Wolfman' being one of my faves, besides 'The Creature from the Black Lagoon'. For more contemporary fare, the original b+w ' Night of the Living Dead' has to be tops with me for a low budget classic that had the feel of a hastily shot documentary film, where the no name actors actually helped to lend to the creepiness of the film; also it's portrayal of human eating zombies was quite cutting edge in it's day.

Not a monster movie, but M is still one of the most unsettling films I've ever watched, and it was made in 1931.

Big +1 here....even though it was such an old movie, the costume and make-up still creeps me out.

It's a very unsettling and fantastic film indeed. It clearly shows that the real monsters are indeed made of very human flesh. It's the human monsters that we fear the most.

Night Of The Living Dead is an obvious classic. The acting (especially the leading woman) is far from Oscar worthy, but it's a interesting story with great conflict between the survivors in the boarded up house. It was most likely shot in BnW for budget purposes since its from the late 60s.

I saw Psycho at my local drive-in when I was a kid. But my favorite old school B&W horror flick is "Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman". Made in 1943 it stars Lon Chaney, JR. as the Wolfman and believe it or not, Bela Lugosi as Frankenstein's monster. I think it's the best one ever done. )-(
