I also live by a greenbelt, and get all kinds of critters cruising by the house in the evening when we like having the door open. My singer has had racoons wander into his house.
Word.

The only way to properly ventilate a house down here where the summer temps are around 115F and the humidity is as high as it can go - meaning your sweat won't evaporate - is to open the front and back doors, so that a breeze blows through the house. Windows help, but most of the ones in my neighborhood have been painted shut for decades.

Screen doors keep most of the mosquitoes out, if they aren't torn up or have gaps around the door frame. Feral cats like to wonder in too.

I understand they are really kinda useless on a submarine. You'd have to ask a seaman though.

Screen doors make a MUCH more satisfying sound when slammed than any other kind of door.

That would be a good reason if the screen were to extend past the door and all over the house. Wrap a house completely and if it was also in the foundation, it would make a Faraday Cage, which absorbs RF, shunting it to ground.

If that's the most important question you have come up with in 21 years you have had a very boring life thus far my friend.

Resist the temptation to use force. A steady stream of air is the way to go.

Those of you who say that they keep the bugs out are using your exterior doors improperly. The function of an exterior door is to allow entry and exit from a building. Ventilation is afforded by windows. And no, I'm not kidding. This is one of those things that hits my OCD side. I can't stand it when someone leaves a door open.

Why u no open a window!?
Well, I'll tell you why. It doesn't let as much cool air in or heat out when I'm trying to cool my house on a cool day. Surely you understand that a bigger hole lets in/out more air. I have a screened in back porch with double doors that open to it. When I want to ventilate my house, I throw them both open and POOF fresh air. It's like magic or something. (I can't believe I am trying to explain this..... not a hard concept.)

In general, I'm a screen door fan, but on my three, the screen/storm window tab screws are becoming stripped or locked up and the bi-annual change-out is becoming a pain in the arse. They can also be inconvenient when schlepping a bass or rig in/out of the house. But, they're here to stay, so pass the flippin' Cheetos (puffed, not crunchy).

21 years and you consider that your greatest question?

Damn, son. I am disappoint. I mean, not even the "how to do the two finger bra-unclasp maneuver"? I mean, it's clear by your question you've yet to face this conundrum...maybe you're saving that for 40?

Your scienceing has no bearing on my paranoia, sir.

The whole point of a screen door is for you to show off your 'stuff' to the neighborhood after taking a shower, without ever leaving the house. :P
