Grr...annoying Firefox issue...

...I'm using Firefox with Windows XP. It was "updated" today, and now my search bar won't stay "mounted." Every time I start Firefox, I have to go in and create a new tool bar, name it, then drag the search bar up to it. When I close the program and re-open it, the new toolbar is gone and I have to repeat the steps.

I googled the problem and found Mozilla's answer about "editing preferences" and their wonderfully vague solution about editing the prefs.js file. Of course, they don't say WHAT needs to be edited.

This happened about 6 weeks ago. I got flustered and clicked the "Restore Default" button under the Troubleshooting menu. It solved the problem, but also erased all my cookies, bookmarks, and all saved data and was a major PITA to restore everything.

Does anyone have any fixes for this problem that doesn't involve restoring all my saved info again?

And please, no smart arse remarks about "Use Chrome" or "Get a Mac."

Thanks in advance.

Uninstall/reinstall Firefox. Shouldn't have to restore anything.

Hopefully this will work.

You do also realize that XP no longer supported by MS and is on countdown to auguring in, right? IMO you should find an upgrade to Win7 while you can find one on Ebay.

Update: It wasn't Firefox's fault, it was McAfee. For some reason the "anti-spam" settings were preventing the addition of the toolbar. Disabled the anti-spam and boom, no more problem.

I guess that's what happens when you use software designed by a lunatic....!
