Well I was thinking about at least trying to get a job here within the next few months. I know alot about my gear, but what IS REQUIRED to get a job here? I'm 18 also, if that makes any difference, I would love any advice or feedback!

I don't plan on making this a big career, just a summer job. Why not? Then I could get discounts too.

Based on what I see most often, what's required is the willingness to sell stuff that isn't the best fit for the customer, but rather what gives the salesperson the highest commission. IME, this based on pressure from management that if you don't make $X, you're out. It also seems to be a good place for the employees to hang out with their buddies. I'm guessing, it's pretty far from working at a "cool music store".

Yeah it'd be chill, but I think they do get paid on commission, that would explain them harassing you haha.

Yup, its based on a lot of commission, sales experience is helpful.
And remember, upsell, Upsell, UPSELL!!!!

I had a friend work at GC, he lasted a month, just couldnt bring in the sales, so he got sacked!

Someone posted that on another thread about GC in the "Bass Humor" section ages ago, so I can't take credit...but I did die laughing the first time I saw it.

It depends how much you like headaches. Constantly listening to 14 year old kids weebling on the Marshalls at full volume, while competing with the crappy music videos on the TV, not to mention the occasionally bleating from the store intercom. Then the actual working part where you get to practice the high-ball art of haggling with everyone that walks through the door.

Other than that, it sounds great.

Sales is a talent, and it can be improved with practice. It doesn't require you to be obnoxious, as any good salesperson demonstrates. They greet you, they are available, helpful and knowledgeable.

When I was in sales, my greeting was always "How can I help you?" That tends to elicit a bit more helpful response than some other greetings.

And NEVER sell a customer something that's not a good fit, unless they are hell-bent on it and won't give up. If you really try to help people find a good fit, you'll have repeat customers that will help run your sales totals up.

This is a concept too often forgotten in the retail sales world.

I know a guy that's worked there for 3 years. He's now at a salary level. He works about 65 hours per week and pulls in a whopping 43K per year. If it pays the bills and fits your needs go for it but I'd be looking to do better.........MUCH better.

So you work on commision with no basic salary at all? Does minimum wage not exist there?

Admittedly I'm not familiar with the commision system, so excuse my ignorance.
