Sell privately, only use GC if it's something you need gone in a hurry.

A Guitar Center employee clued me in on this once.
They offer you 50% of what it is going to sell for.
Absolutely not worth doing. |

They need to make money on it, which means they need to buy low and sell high. Because holding onto your instrument means another instrument can't be put on the racks, they have to make a profit. It's a business afterall, not a charity.

I am just going to sell the instrument myself because i dont feel like talking to any air head at guitarcenter. |

Absolutely not worth doing. | That's not always true. I have only ever traded one thing into Guitar Center. I traded my Larrivee OMV-09 which had a list price of about $3k, if I remember correctly. I purchased it new for $1400 and put pickups in it for about $300. I used it for 4 years or so and I took it to Guitar Center. They gave me $1400 for it. They were selling it the week after for $2k. I was trading it in for a Breedlove made in their custom shop, which was being sold at cost ($1800).
That is probably NOT the norm. I don't know why they gave me so much for the trade in. But, it does happen. |

They had a Pentabuzz I really wanted and while they still got the far better deal overall, on one bass they didn't. One of the basses I traded in I had just got from Rondo for $130 and they gave me $200 on it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
