Guitar Restoration Project

In early winter this year, we had about 10 inches of snow, then it warmed up and melted along with a huge thunderstorm. Some of you (probably none of you) might remember a thread I posted about how my basement flooded during all of this, and how I lost roughly $5,000 worth of guitars, amps, and speaker cabinets. It wasn’t a total loss, as my homeowners insurance paid me 100% what the retail value of my stuff cost, so I was able to rebuy, and upgrade most of my gear.

However, there was one piece of equipment that was very sentimental to me. It was my first decently nice guitar. I bought it when I was 19, and I played a couple gigs with it in college, it went with me everywhere, it was my go to thing to clear my head during my mostly great but sometimes overwhelming youth. I just have a lot of fond memories of it, and I didn’t want to just get another guitar. (even tho I bought a bitchin Fender Fretless Jazz bass for the band im currently gigging with =)) So I decided to rebuild it.

Problems were pickups, pots (knobs) were rusted, and the neck was warped from the water. I was bored one day, and was able to bend, adjust, and Mr. Miagee the neck to be straight as an arrow…I don’t know how, but it worked. So I decided to take the entire thing apart and polish everything and rebuild it. You cant see from the one pic of all the pieces, but EVERY piece of metal was either tarnished to hell, rusted to hell…or both. It was sick. I worked every bracket, knob, screw, bolt, and ever piece of metal I could find until it shinned like new. I then bought two pickups off of an old Gibson Les Paul Studio and replaced the chrome pickups with some new ones.

I cant believe how well this project came out. All I wanted was for this to be somewhat playable, and look somewhat decent. The pics don’t show it because they were taken with my ****** cell phone, but this thing shines more than my GTO. Ill try and get some new pics tomorrow with my better camera.

Those of you that play guitar, I think you can understand my love for this guitar haha.

BEFORE: (only pic i have...you cant notice how much ****, rust and tarnish is on the metal)

AFTER!!!
